Velvet Crush

I recently went on a trip to Abu Dhabi and stayed at the Rosewood; it’s one of the most luxurious hotels I’ve ever stayed in and truly gave me an amazing break with the best service 24/7.

One of the perks of the trip was the access to The Manor Club Lounge, which was a chic James Bond-esque lounge that made you feel on top of the world every time you entered. The first thing I noticed was the impeccably dressed bartender, always sporting a beautifully tailored burgundy velvet tuxedo jackets reminiscent of Tom Ford.

From then on I was drawn to velvet and left after my holiday pining for one myself, but in a more relaxed casual cut. I saw the most perfect one at Balmain below but a little out of my price budget…

Balmain Velvet Blazer

Just when I had forgotten about my velvet crush, when I was in Bruges this weekend I unexpectedly came across this one at Sissy Boy (my new favourite store and I will be blogging about it later this week). It is the perfect mix of high low dressing, a super casual yet elegant cut and in a beautiful navy/grey colour that is perfect for dressing up denim on an evening.

Some more inspiration of this AW16 trend is above for the best ways to wear yours this season. The perfect option from Desk to Dinner for christmas parties and if you really want to up your game, why not go head to toe in a velvet suit!

Ganni’s ‘It’ Sweater

I am not a pink fan and never have been….if I do own anything Pink it has to be on a different colour spectrum of Pink or I convince myself it is!

However, of late, I have been drawn to pink (Hot Pink/Lipstick Pink) in sweaters because with a great pair of denim I think it looks so fresh and seriously fun compared to the normal grey cream and camel you get at this time of year.

Now Ganni is a firm favourite of mine and being Danish it has the whole minimal Nordic vibe going on each season. This Fall there has been one standout piece which all the fashion bloggers have been going crazy for… The Pink Brooks Rollneck. Or if you are Alexa Chung the Brooks Cardigan.

As you can see the Brooks sweater does all the talking and works with any denim; frayed, acid wash, boyfriend, high waisted. All you need to add is a great accessories to take it from casual to elevated chic.

P.S. Don’t fear, even though it is sold out everywhere in Pink, there is a trusty grey option too which will be a wardrobe staple for years to come!

Other Pink cable knits which fit the bill:

Ralph Lauren- Nili Lotan $995

Isabel Marant- Nillsen £96

River Island- Cold Shoulder £36

Perfect Pleats

The pleated skirt has been around for several seasons and each time it is styled in a new way, making it ever more appealing and a fail safe wardrobe piece.

This AW16 is no exception and it is now the perfect piece to go from desk to dinner and even works for the cool masculine dresser to the ultra feminine girl. My favourite ideas for each look are below.

Cocktail Hour

Bag- STELLA MCCARTNEY £1096, Skirt- MAJE £209

Femme Fatale

Jumper- REISS £135, Skirt- BCBGMAXAZRIA £199

Cool Girl

Boots- ACNE £390, Skirt- MAX MARA £265

I could easily wear all of these looks as they really translate into my every day life and lend themselves to that well put together yet effortless vibe all Scandinavians evoke. I will definitely be making sure I find a new pleated skirt which is going to slot straight into my autumn wardrobe!

The Skirt of the Season

So I am a secret fan of M&S at the moment…

If you haven’t seen their new collection then I urge you to, their Utility look campaign had me pining to go into their store and buy every single look; a rarity! Everything was unique, fabrics high quality and cuts which shouted luxury. My favourites in particular to find real gems are Limited Collection, M&S Collection  and Autograph which is also modelled by Rosie Huntington-Whitely.

That being said, let me introduce you to the skirt of the season; the striking military green wrap skirt in a soft buttery leather and with a cool D-Ring belt to add some edge. This simply will sell out, just like their version last year in suede with buttons (70’s vibe- even Alexa Chung was seen in this).

Wear with a white shirt and strappy sandals for leg lengthening model envy, or with flatforms reminiscent of a Geisha girl but with some serious edge.

Buy now or be disappointed, this is so, so chic!
